Andrew D. Kaiser is a composer, pianist, and writer based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His work spans acoustic and electronic media, with a broad catalog of piano and chamber music alongside a growing body of electronic compositions. He is also an active teacher and speaker on music, meditation, and aesthetics.

Kaiser studied with Bill Matthews at Bates College; with David Stock at Duquesne University; and undertook further graduate work with Eric Moe and Mathew Rosenblum at the University of Pittsburgh. His collaborations include years of close work with visionary artist Lowry Burgess and the Deep Space Signaling Group at Carnegie Mellon University.

Significant artistic projects include Kaiser’s contribution to the MoonArk, a lunar artifact developed by CMU’s STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, which has been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Pompidou Center in Paris, and is slated for inclusion in the Smithsonian’s permanent collection. His ballet AstroBallet was commissioned as part of UNESCO’s 50th anniversary celebration of human spaceflight (Paris, 2011), following his earlier invitation to present at UNESCO’s Forum on Cultural Rapprochement (2010). His solo piano work Wild Heights Sown with Sorrow, composed for Ukrainian pianist and scholar Taras Filenko, was premiered in a City of Asylum concert commemorating the war in Ukraine, and stands as a tribute to cultural memory and resilience.

Kaiser is currently completing Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, a cantata for voices and ensemble based on the poetry of Walt Whitman. In preparation for that project, he is forming a collaborative recording ensemble of amateur and semi-professional wind players to workshop and record a companion piece in fall 2025. This new group invites musicians who are drawn to thoughtful rehearsal, deep listening, and shared artistic purpose. Check out more details here
